Algebra and Geometry

We are preparing for the EOC assessments. I gave students 2 websites to use as resources:

www.k12.wa.us/Mathematics/Crosswalks.aspx
http://www.khanacademy.org/

For the first website, click on whichever EOC you are taking and study the examples. Solve as many as you can.

THe second website includes videos on certain concepts for any subject.

Study hard and see you Thursday!

Pre-Algebra

We will spend the remainder of the year preparing for Algebra. Students received a worksheet that is due Thursday.

Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry

We have only one more day of MSP testing! I gave students a break in Pre-Algebra yesterday. THey had all taken the math MSP, so we watched a video on science and technology and I sent them on their way with no homework.

In Geometry, we went over the worksheet they were given Monday. Classes were only 30 minutes long, so we did not quite get through it. I gave them 2 more worksheets that each have a side we've already done. Students should know what side to do. We will continue to prepare for the EOC on Monday.

In Algebra, students finished their test. They were given a worksheet over linear equations. We will continue preparing for the EOC on Monday.

Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry

My apologies for not posting last Thursday...

Today in Pre-Algebra, we went over last week's homework which was Lesson 29 B, C, and F. We then reviewed the last 5 lessons. We will have a small test Thursday over Lessons 25-29. Students will be taking the MSP, so their homework is simply to prepare for the MSP and Pre-Algebra test.

In Geometry, we reviewed the trig functions we learned last week. We then moved on to inverse trig functions and finding missing angles. Students received a worksheet that most completed in class. We then reviewed the transformations. We will test Thursday over proofs, transformations, and trig functions.

In Algebra, we reviewed standard equations of a line, circle, ellipse and then moved onto Lesson 35 which is over parabolas and hyperbolas. Students were assigned Lesson 35 A, B, D, and E.

Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry

Today in Pre-Algebra we stepped back to Lesson 27 going over volumes of pyramids and cones. I assigned Lesson 27 A, B, E, and F, due Thursday.

In Geometry, we spent the period going over trig functions. Students received a worksheet to complete as they left class. This is due Thursday. We will be testing next Monday.

In Algebra, we skipped Lesson 33 and began Lesson 34 on Circles and Ellipses. I assigned Lesson 34A, B, D, and E, due Thursday.

Friday, April 22, 2011

Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry

On Thursday, April 21st, Pre-Algebra jumped Lesson 27 and began working on Lesson 28. I assigned Lesson 28 B,C, and F. Students do not need to do 9-11 on F because it is on material in Lesson 27. We will get into lesson 27 next week.

In Geometry, we continued working with trig ratios. Students were assigned Lesson 30 A, B, and D. THey also need to do the proof from C. We will spend next week practicing the things we've learned in the last 3 lessons.

In Algebra, we began lesson 32 working with significant figures and Scientific notation. This is a great bridge to any student that is going to take Chemistry next year. I assigned lesson 32 A, B, and E.

All assignments are due Monday.

Have a Happy Easter!

Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry

On Thursday, April 14th, both Pre-Algebra and Geometry classes reviewed. In Pre-Algebra, we worked on multiplying binomials. I thought the students could benefit from more practice, so they received a worksheet to complete over the weekend. Geometry was intense with transformations. The book did not spend much time on this, so I thought it would be a good thing to go in depth about them. The students worked on transformations in class, then received two worksheets to complete by Monday. Students need to bring their graphing calculators next week. In Algebra, we worked on two lessons that are very similar. We are learning conversions. There is a specific process I like students to use-the book uses this as well. I assigned Lesson 29 A and E as well as Lesson 30 A and E to be completed by Monday.

Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry

Today I began all classes with a clear view of the remainder of the school year. We have 7 weeks of school left, many of which are shortened class periods due to state testing. In Algebra and Geometry, we went over the tests from before spring break before moving on. In Pre-Algebra, we reviewd a bit and then began working on multiplying polynomials. Todays homework is: Pre-Algebra: Lesson 25 A, B, E, F Algebra: Lesson 28 A, B, D, E (for those who have not completed it) as well as 28 C Geometry: Lesson 28 A, B, D, E (for those who have not completed it) as well as 28 C These assignments are due Thursday.

Algebra

Today we went over Lesson 27. We will be testing on Thursday through Lesson 27, so I assigned Lesson 20-27, C from each lesson. Students do not need to "build rectangles" or "check" on the assignments. They also do not need to do the oriental math from lesson 25 9-10.

Geometry

We were going to take a test today but I did not feel students were ready to be tested on proofs. We spent the entire hour going over proofs. We will test on Thursday through Lesson 26. Homework for today was for students to research proofs-find 4 different proofs and go over the solutions. Print it off an bring them Thursday. Also, students are to design their own proof. This takes some honesty for students not to copy one from the internet. Good luck!

Pre-Algebra

Today we took a test over lessons through 24. It took up most of the hour. I assigned students 22H, 23H, and 24H to be completed by Thursday.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Geometry and Algebra

On Monday, February 14th, we reviewed for the test on Thursday in both Algebra and Geometry. The tests will both be over material through lesson 19, focusing on lessons 14-19. In both classes, i assigned tests 14-19 in the test booklet, only the even problems.

Pre-Algebra

On Monday, February 14th, we reviewed for our test on Thursday. The test will be through lesson 19. I assigned from the test booklet tests 15-19, only the odd problems.

Algebra

On Thursday, February 10th, we once again started class of with an entry task. Students did the first few problems from Lesson 18H. After going over these as a class, I answered questions from Lesson 19. Students seem to be doing very well on the material lately. We will be testing next Thursday. I assigned Lesson 19A, B, and E to be completed by Monday.

Geometry

On Thursday, February 10 we started class with some problems from Lesson 19H. Students did alright on this with a little "push!" There weren't very many questions on Lesson 18, so we moved on to Lesson 19. This was another lesson over radicals, except now we're simplifying them from the denominator! I assigned Lesson 19 A, B, and E.

Pre-Algebra

On Thursday, February 10th, we continued working on Lesson 19. Class started off with a difficult entry task from 19H. Students tried, and then we discussed it as a class. I assigned Lesson 19 C, E, and F to be completed by Monday.

Algebra

On Monday, the 7th of February, I began class by answering questions from the homework. Many of the questions came from the honors lesson I assigned last Thursday. Once we got through that, we moved on to Lesson 18. Lesson 18 is over multiplying and dividing exponents. Once students get the hang of this, they will have a complete understanding of it.

Geometry

On Monday, the 7th of February, I began class by giving students the honors page from lesson 17. After the initial "I can't do this" phase, students had little trouble with it. It was mostly review from the last few lessons involving volume. Once we corrected that, I answered any questions from the previous assignment. We then began Lesson 18. Lesson 18 is over Pythagorean Theorem which is review for most, so we will move through this very quickly. I assigned Lessons 18A, B, D, and E to be completed by Thursday.

Pre-Algebra

On Monday, the 7th of February, we began class by celebrating the Packers Super Bowl Victory! Once I bragged about that, we began work on the honors page from Lesson 18. Students did pretty good with this challenge. There weren't many questions over the homework, so we soon got started on Lesson 19. I assigned Lesson 19A, B, and D to be finished by Thursday.

Algebra

Students are doing very well with consecutive integers in Lesson 17. I answered a few questions today on Monday's assignment, and we briefly reviewed graphing inequalities (17C). We continued work on Lesson 17 as I assigned parts D, E, and H to be completed by Monday.

Geometry

Today we continued working on Lesson 17. After going over questions from Monday's assignment, I extended on the material. Students were given a number of problems to solve involving the simplification of radicals. None of this was from the book, however, I believe will be very beneficial to them. I then assigned the next two parts of Lesson 17, D and E. This is due Monday.

Pre-Algebra

Today we reviewed Moday's assignment and went over questions on the material. We continued work on Lesson 18, and I assigned Lesson 18 C, E, and F. This will be due on Monday.
